After having the guts to ask her out and she finally said “yes”, it’s time to focus on what you are going to talk about on your first date. As you know, this is the most crucial part because first dates are unforgettable. Having a great conversation will make your first dates exciting, fun and most of all special for the both of you; on the flip side, it can also be worse. It will also set the bar if you and your date are compatible with each other. You need to put your game face on and create a good first impression. Keeping a good conversation flowing will avoid the date to turn sour.
Set the mood with promptness
After asking her out, select a nice romantic place that both of you will like. Make sure to arrive there on time if you agreed to meet there instead of picking her up. Being late will definitely ruin your first date. Dress appropriately but never overdo it. Look decent for your date and just be yourself. Speak clearly when talking to your date. A pleasant voice is romantic and makes your date feel that you care.
Don’t forget your manners. Treat her like a fine lady by being respectful and courteous. Don’t be nervous, just relax and enjoy your date. Smiling helps break the awkwardness and will help make your date feel comfortable. Maintain eye contact and avoid looking around. Nothing offends a girl than seeing you distracted by a sexy passerby. When choosing on a topic to discuss never talk about past relationships, planning to get married, sensitive issues like race or religion, family problems, money, boring topics like business and politics, and most importantly, don’t ever talk about sex.
Compliments are great conversation starters too
This is a great way to break the ice and start up a conversation about your date. Compliment her on the way she looks and your date will surely open up about her fashion sense. Tell her how the color of her hair brightens up her face, or how the cut of her dress makes her look a lot slimmer. You’ll notice that she’ll return the favor and compliment you too. Avoid jokes about her fashion style at this point; you must understand that she took time to prepare her look for this date.
Interest and Hobbies
Ask her about what are her interests and hobbies. You will learn more about her by discussing this; also you might find something in common. Eventually, you will have more things to share with her, especially the fun side of life stories. Knowing your date’s interest and hobbies will help you determine if your date is fun or boring. Either way, this helps the conversation more interesting.
Family and Friends
In order to get to know her more, it helps to talk about the people around her. By talking about her family, you get to know where she came from, what kind of parents she grew up with. Likewise, learning about her friends will help you know more about her fun side as well as what type of friends she likes to be with. If your date is comfortable enough with you she will tell you their friends’ adventures and maybe a little mischief as well.
Movies or TV Shows
Ask about her favorite movies or TV shows so you will know her taste in entertainment. It’s fun and interesting to find out if she likes hair raising horror movies, out of this world sci-fi thrills, laugh trip comedy or eye watering drama movies. Again, it will be good to find something in common.
Another fun topic to talk about is the places you’ve been to and places you want to see. This will make the conversation exciting and somewhat expose your date’s adventurous side. If she maintains to be a city girl, ask her what out-of-town adventures she dreams of doing.
Work and Professional Life
Talking about these is important on a first date. Ask your date what she does for a living and how is her work treating her so far. Just play by ear and ask the right questions; not all girls want to discuss about their work environment especially those you aren’t too happy about it. Maybe you can begin by talking about your work and co-workers, but when talking about these kinds of topics, do not explain every detail. If you and she have different work, she might not easily relate to it. Take cues from her facial expression, or the limitation of her responses. If she is not responding well, it’s a hint that you should already move on to the next topic.
Your first date is your best opportunity of creating a lasting impression on your date. Keep the conversation light and positive to get to know her better. Never lose track on the topic at hand. Make sure your date feel that you are really interested in her. That way your first date will definitely follow up with another one.
